NEWS PRSecuring the German 380kV Project: Opening the Door to the Extra-High Voltage Market
Securing the German 380kV Project: Opening the Door to the Extra-High Voltage MarketOn February 2, 2023, Taihan announced that it had secured two consecutive projects in January for the construction of Extra-high voltage power grids in Germany. The client is TenneT, a leading Transmission System Operator (TSO) operating power transmission networks in both Germany and the Netherlands. The total contract value is approximately Around 52.8 million USD. Both projects aim to establish 380kV Extra-high voltage power grids to cater to Germany's expanding power demand. The 380kV voltage level is the highest among Germany's underground AC power grids and, given its importance, its power grid stability is ensured through meticulous technology and quality evaluations conducted during the contractor selection process. This recent deal signifies Taihan's entry into the German 380kV Extra-high voltage power grid market.

BUSINESS productExtra-High Voltage XLPE Cables
Cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) is polyethylene (PE) whose chemical structure is modified by cross-linking reaction and has a high allowable operating temperature of 90℃ and excellent electrical properties. As the problem of water tree, which is considered as a biggest weakness, has been improved with the development of manufacturing technology, XLPE is now widely used as an insulation material for power cables of various voltages as well as extra-high voltage.

BUSINESS productExtra-High Voltage OF Cables
Oil-filled (OF) paper insulation cables have a history of over 100 years, and use insulating paper impregnated with low-viscosity insulating oil as an insulator. By applying a pressure higher than atmospheric pressure, the gap in the insulator is completely removed and as a result, the cables have very good electrical properties.

BUSINESS productHVDC Cable
HVDC(High Voltage Direct Current) Cable convert AC power into DC power before transmission. Since they have low transmission loss and can transmit more than twice the current, they are suitable for long-distance large-capacity transmission. Taihan anticipated the growing demand for HVDC cables and focused on their development as a key growth driver. As a result, in 2017, taihan developed the 500kV MI-PPLP HVDC cable. In 2022, we became the first in South Korea to develop a 500kV XLPE current-type cable system and obtained international certification. In 2023, taihan also achieved another first in South Korea by developing a 525kV voltage-type HVDC cable system with a conductor cross-sectional area of 3,000 sq. mm and a conductor operating temperature of over 90 degrees Celsius, and received international certification. Taihan is also building a dedicated test center for HVDC cables at our Dangjin Cable Plant in Chungnam to strengthen our competitiveness in HVDC cables.

NEWS PRCEO Hyung-Kyun Na visited Australia for his first overseas schedule in 2020
CEO Hyung-Kyun Na visited Australia for his first overseas schedule in 2020CEO Hyung-Kyun Na visited Australia on the first overseas schedule this year together with the head of the E&C Business Unit and the head of the Overseas Extra-high Voltage Sales Division and met with Transgrid management, a business partner in the region. We strengthened our partnership for the successful execution of extra-high voltage projects received at the end of last year. In December last year, Transgrid, a power agency in New South Wales, southeastern Australia, signed a contract to build an extra-high voltage grid for KRW 138.5 billion with Taihan. Following the year of 2018, winning large projects in Australia in 2019, Taihan has been recognized for its competitiveness by local power agencies. So, we will continue to receive great success in the Australian market.

NEWS PRFirst export of extra-high voltage cables to the Netherlands
First export of extra-high voltage cables to the NetherlandsTaihan opened the first door of Dutch exports. In the middle of this month, Taihan shipped extra-high voltage cables produced at the Dangjin factory to the Netherlands. They are used for a project received earlier this year from TenneT, a Dutch state-owned power transmission company. In addition, they are 380 kV class high voltage cables, the highest voltage among underground power grids used in the Netherlands. This cable will be installed for the transmission of electricity produced at the large offshore wind farms on the southern coast of the Netherlands (Hollandse Kust) and it will be connected and tested in the Netherlands by October this year to complete the project. With the first step in the Netherlands after competing with leading European companies, Taihan expects to launch its market in Europe, the home of cable.

NEWS PRTaihan procures mega project valued AUD 173M. in Australia
Taihan procures mega project valued AUD 173M. in Australia Taihan, a South Korean leading provider of cable and wire, procures major Australian energy project in Sydney. Taihan has officially announced they have signed a contract for the provision of 330kV cable with TransGrid for its Powering Sydney’s Future project. TransGrid is one of largest transmission utilities in Australia. The contract value is around AUD 173 million(KRW 143 billion). This project is designed to prepare Sydney for the expected increase in power demand in the CBD (Central Business District) and surrounding suburbs. Taihan will carry out this contract as a full Design and Construct (Turn-Key) project, not only supplying cables and it’s accessories but also system design, civil works, cable installation, jointing and commissioning tests. The 330kV cable grade is the highest voltage used in Australia for any underground cable system. Taihan was selected because of several prior successful turn-key projects. Taihan has established a good reputation for the successful delivery of 132kV and 275kV projects in Australia and 220kV projects in New Zealand. Taihan entered the Australian market by supplying 33kV underground cable in 2004. An officer from Taihan said, “TransGrid has been planning this project for a couple years for the stable power supply in Sydney’s CBD and surrounding suburbs, so It is very meaningful for Taihan to win this contract in competition with major global companies. Also, Taihan looks forward to continued market expansion in Australia due to steep population growth and infrastructure expansion led by government.”

NEWS PRTaihan wins major contract worth approximately KRW 91 billion in Kuwait
Taihan wins major contract worth approximately KRW 91 billion in Kuwait Taihan recently won its bid for a 400kV extra-high voltage project worth KRW 91 billion in Kuwait. As part of the South Al Mutlaa City construction project, the largest new city development project in Kuwait’s history, Taihan is expected to lay subterranean cables (100km in length) to connect the city with a newly built substation. With regards to the actual sourcing of extra-high voltage cables/connectors, and the electrical installations/engineering works for the project, Taihan will use what is known as a “Turn-Key” method. An official at Taihan said, “We’ve built up a strong track record in the Middle East. Based on the trust in our products and our capacity to execute projects we were able to earn throughout the years, we successfully won our bid for this latest major project in Kuwait.” The official added, “We anticipate several more projects involving extra-high voltage cables to be initiated by the Ministry of Electricity and Water as well as the Public Authority For Housing Welfare in Kuwait. As such, we’re hoping that our success in this project will give us an edge when we compete for other additional projects moving forward.”
