Signifying “the present and future of cables & solutions”, Taihan Cable & Solution’s exhibition booths set up under four major themes: electricity cables, submarine cables, communications cables, and cable accessories. Taihan drew a lot of attention from organizers with its array of next-generation, strategic products, such as 525kV VSC HVDC cables and submarine cables.

Cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) is polyethylene (PE) whose chemical structure is modified by cross-linking reaction and has a high allowable operating temperature of 90℃ and excellent electrical properties. As the problem of water tree, which is considered as a biggest weakness, has been improved with the development of manufacturing technology, XLPE is now widely used as an insulation material for power cables of various voltages as well as extra-high voltage.

Oil-filled (OF) paper insulation cables have a history of over 100 years, and use insulating paper impregnated with low-viscosity insulating oil as an insulator. By applying a pressure higher than atmospheric pressure, the gap in the insulator is completely removed and as a result, the cables have very good electrical properties.

HVDC Cable convert AC power into DC power before transmission. Since they have low transmission loss and can transmit more than twice the current, they are suitable for long-distance large-capacity transmission. In anticipation of the expanding demand for HVDC, Taihan has selected HVDC cables as a key driver and has made efforts to develop them. After successfully developing 500kV MI-PPLP HVDC cables in 2017, it successfully developed 500kV LCC XLPE HVDC cable system in 2022 and 525kV VSC XLPE cable system in 2023. Taihan is also building a dedicated test center for HVDC cables at our Dangjin plant in Chungnam to strengthen our competitiveness in HVDC cables.

Participated in Bitgram International Exposition of Electric Power Technology (BIXPO) 2021Taihan participated in Bitgaram International Electric Power Technology Expo (BIXPO) 2021 held at Kimdaejung Convention Center, Gwangju, from November 10 to 12. At BIXPO, a representative international comprehensive energy expo hosted and supervised by Korea Electric Power Corporation, Taihan introduced its new and renewable energy-related businesses such as submarine cables and solar PV cables oriented to the theme of Carbon Neutrality, and unveiled related products. Taihan also presented a development process of a new technology in the solution field, such as a Direction-Changeable Laying Device, imprinting its excellent technology on the visitors.

NEWS PRConcluded the HVDC Technology Development MOU
Concluded the HVDC Technology Development MOUTaihan concluded an MOU with KEPCO for collaborative research on developing a High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission system. The MOU is concerned with localizing HVDC technology, which is believed to be the future technology that will secure the ‘blue ocean’ in the power industry. HVDC is an eco-friendly and highly efficient transmission and distribution technology converting AC power produced in the power plant into DC power for transmission and reconverting it into AC power for power supply. It has a great ripple effect on semiconductors, power electronics, controls, communications, and engineering fields and it is recognized as a key strategic technology in power projects in the nation. Through collaborative research, Taihan will develop processing and transmission technology. If domestic power companies collaboratively start HVDC overseas business, it is expected to lead to both the creation of high values and a great ripple effect on related fields.
