On the 12th, Taihan announced that Taihan Cable VINA (TAIHAN CABLE VINA), its Vietnamese manufacturing subsidiary, has broken ground on a new 400kV-class EHV cable plant in Dong Nai Province in southern Vietnam. This facility will serve as Taihan’s first overseas production base for extra-high voltage cables and forms part of its strategy to respond to expanding global power grid investments and strengthen its overseas manufacturing footprint. The new plant will be built on a site of approximately 56,200 square meters (approx. 17,000 pyeong) within the Long Thanh Industrial Zone in Dong Nai Province, where Taihan VINA’s existing plant is located, with operations scheduled to commence in 2027. Through this investment, Taihan VINA will expand its EHV cable production capacity and enhance its responsiveness not only to Southeast Asia but also to global markets including Europe, the Americas, and Oceania. Upon completion, Taihan VINA will become the only company in Vietnam capable of manufacturing 400kV-class extra-high voltage cables. On the 11th (local time), Taihan VINA held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new EHV cable plant at its Dong Nai facility. Approximately 150 attendees were present. The ceremony began with a traditional Vietnamese lion dance and drum performance, followed by welcome remarks, a commemorative video presentation, and a ceremonial groundbreaking performance. Participants celebrated Taihan VINA’s new leap forward while wishing for the project’s safe and successful completion. In his welcoming remarks, Joon-seok Kim, Executive Vice President of Taihan, stated, “Over the past 20 years, Taihan VINA has served as a core production base driving Taihan’s overseas business growth, built upon accumulated manufacturing expertise and strong quality competitiveness. With the construction of this new plant, we will contribute to the advancement of Vietnam’s power grid while playing a leading role in the global energy infrastructure market.” Vietnam’s power demand is rapidly increasing due to accelerated industrialization and is projected to grow at an average annual rate of approximately 10–12% through 2030. In particular, large-scale new projects are planned to establish transmission networks of 220kV and above, indicating that the construction of this new plant is expected to serve as a key infrastructure asset in meeting growing market demand. Established in 2005, Taihan VINA is one of Vietnam’s leading cable manufacturers, producing high-voltage (HV), medium- and low-voltage (MV/LV) power cables, as well as overhead conductors. Taihan Cable & Solution plans to further develop Taihan VINA into a second global production hub alongside its Dangjin Cable Plant in Korea through continued facility expansion and technological investment, thereby proactively addressing growing demand in the global cable market.

Dong Nai Province, located near Ho Chi Minh City in southern Vietnam, is widely recognized as a key industrial hub, offering strategic geographical advantages, abundant industrial parks, and strong infrastructure. The province has become central to Vietnam’s manufacturing industry and power infrastructure investments. The meeting was attended by Joon-seok Kim, Executive Vice President of Taihan, Eung-seo Kim, Managing Director of Corporate Planning, and Seung-ho Choi, President of Taihan Vina. They met with Governor Vo Tan Duc and other provincial officials to present Taihan’s investment plan, including the economic benefits for the region, while also discussing administrative procedures and infrastructural support to ensure the project’s successful and timely completion. Governor Vo Tan Duc stated, “This investment is a very meaningful decision that will make a significant contribution to the expansion of Vietnam’s transmission and distribution network. Dong Nai Province will provide active support to ensure that Taihan Cable Vina’s project proceeds without delay.” On August 13, Taihan had announced its plan to establish Vietnam’s first 400kV-class EHV cable manufacturing plant through Taihan Vina. The project involves a total investment of approximately KRW 75 billion (USD 55 million) and will be located in the Long Thanh Industrial Park, where Taihan Vina’s existing high- and medium/low-voltage plants are based. Construction is scheduled to commence in the first half of 2026, with operations to begin in 2027. With the new plant, Taihan Vina aims to respond to the increasing demand for EHV cables in Vietnam while significantly expanding exports to Europe, the Americas, and ASEAN markets. The company targets achieving annual overseas sales exceeding USD 100 million and plans to hire over 100 additional employees, adding to its current workforce of about 300. A Taihan spokesperson commented, “By working in close partnership with Dong Nai Province, we will ensure the timely and seamless construction of the plant, supplying high-quality, high-performance cables that contribute to Vietnam’s infrastructure development. With this investment, Taihan Vina will grow into a global hub for EHV cable production, following the success of our Dangjin Cable Plant in Korea.” Founded in 2005 and headquartered in Ho Chi Minh City, Taihan Cable Vina currently employs around 300 people and produces a wide range of products, including high-, medium-, and low-voltage cables and overhead conductors. The company announced that its order backlog reached KRW 3.25 trillion as of the end of August, marking the first time it has exceeded the KRW 3 trillion threshold and setting a new all-time record. This represents a substantial 3.5-fold increase from KRW 945.5 billion at the end of 2020, just before its acquisition by the Hoban Group, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of over 30% during this period. This backlog figure exclusively tracks long-term, high-profit project-based orders, primarily consisting of extra-high-voltage power grids. It does not include sales from its materials business (such as processed copper wire), communication cables, or domestic private sector sales. In August alone, Taihan secured over KRW 510 billion in new orders, which significantly contributed to the backlog expansion. These key projects include: the Anma Offshore Wind Submarine Cable Project (KRW 181.6 billion), the Singapore 400kV Extra-High-Voltage Power Grid Project (KRW 110 billion), and the Qatar Extra-High-Voltage Power Grid Project (KRW 220 billion). All these are large-scale projects to build submarine and extra-high-voltage underground cables in both domestic and international markets, to be executed on a full turnkey basis, covering everything from cable production and connection to construction and testing. Taihan attributes the order expansion to its extensive experience in executing projects and its turnkey capabilities in key global markets. For example, in Singapore, Taihan has secured five consecutive 400kV turnkey projects, leading to a number one market share in the 400kV and higher voltage sector. Similarly, in Qatar, the company has strengthened its position as a key supplier by successfully completing numerous projects over several decades. Moving forward, Taihan plans to secure sustained growth by strengthening its competitiveness in the submarine and HVDC cable sectors. To this end, the company has confirmed its investment in a second submarine cable factory capable of producing 640kV HVDC submarine cables. Additionally, by acquiring Ocean C&I, a specialized submarine cable construction firm, Taihan has secured the capability to provide a full value chain, from production and transport to installation and maintenance. A Taihan official stated, “We have achieved our highest-ever order backlog by proving our technological and execution capabilities in extra-high-voltage power grids and submarine cables, both domestically and internationally. Taihan announced on August 26 that it has received a Letter of Award (LOA) from Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) for a large-scale extra-high voltage (EHV) power grid expansion project. The project aims to expand the transmission system to deliver electricity generated from a major desalination and power plant to the entire nation of Qatar in a stable manner. Valued at approximately USD 130 million (KRW 180 billion), the project will be executed on a full turn-key basis, covering the entire process from design and manufacturing to cable laying, jointing, and testing of 400kV and 220kV EHV networks—the highest voltage levels in the country. This follows another contract secured on August 21, worth around USD 31 million (KRW 40 billion), for the construction of a 220kV EHV power network to meet Qatar’s growing electricity demand. This project will also be carried out on a full turn-key basis. Qatar is regarded as one of the most technically demanding markets in the Middle East. In particular, EHV full turn-key projects require rigorous evaluation across all dimensions, including quality, technology, engineering, and project management. The recent contract wins are widely seen as recognition of Taihan’s superior EHV cable technology and its proven project execution capabilities. Since 2008, Taihan has steadily participated in Kahramaa’s EHV grid expansion projects, consistently delivering strong results against global competitors and strengthening its position as a key supplier in Qatar. A Taihan official commented, “These consecutive contract wins reaffirm Taihan’s unrivaled competitiveness in Qatar’s power grid sector. The contract is valued at approximately KRW 110 billion. This project is part of a cross-border power interconnection initiative to transmit renewable energy generated in Indonesia to Singapore. It supports Singapore’s growing electricity demand driven by the expansion of data centers and AI infrastructure. Under a full turnkey contract, Taihan will construct a 400kV-class underground power grid to deliver power to a substation located on West Jurong Island, Singapore. A full turnkey contract encompasses all project stages—from design and manufacturing to laying, jointing, connection, and testing—and involves a rigorous evaluation of quality, technical reliability, and engineering capabilities. Notably, 400kV is the highest voltage level currently operated in Singapore, requiring vendors to meet technological standards equivalent to those for 500kV systems. Leveraging its proven track record in supplying 500kV power grids in the United States and other regions, Taihan remains the only Korean cable manufacturer capable of delivering 400kV turnkey solutions in Singapore. Including this latest contract, the company has secured five consecutive 400kV turnkey projects, establishing itself as the market leader in Singapore’s 400kV and above segment. A company spokesperson stated, “This contract once again affirms our unrivaled competitiveness in Singapore’s Extra-high voltage power grid market. Having positioned ourselves as a key local supplier, we plan to accelerate market expansion of high-value products based on advanced technologies such as HVDC cable systems and submarine cables.” Last year, Taihan also secured new orders worth approximately KRW 800 billion from SP PowerAssets Limited for 230kV and 400kV Extra-high voltage turnkey projects. Taihan (CEO Song Jong-Min) revealed through a public announcement on the 4th that it had finalized two contracts with SP PowerAssets Limited for the supply and installation of a 400kV EHV power grid, with a total value of KRW 840 billion. This figure accounts for around 30% of the company’s consolidated sales for 2023, which amounted to KRW 2.844 trillion. The NDC373 project, one of the two contracts, amounts to approximately KRW 500 billion, making it the largest export of extra-high voltage AC transmission networks in the nation's history. This marks the most sizable project that Taihan has ever acquired, whether within the country or overseas. This endeavor is a key project that SP PowerAssets has meticulously prepared over a long period to effectively address the burgeoning electricity demand stemming from the surging demand of AI and data centers. This grand-scale project entails the construction of a 400kV extra-high voltage underground power grid, the highest voltage in use locally, throughout Singapore, with Taihan undertaking the entire process, from design to production, laying, connection, and testing, in a full turn-key manner. Due to the critical importance of stability in a 400kV full turn-key project, rigorous evaluation encompassing quality, technical prowess, engineering proficiency, and project management capabilities is carried out when selecting the contractor. In particular, the high construction difficulty of this project, which includes tunnel sections, required comprehensive and thorough evaluation, and Taihan was selected as a qualified contractor amidst competition with renowned global firms. Song Jong-Min, Vice Chairman, remarked, “Winning this landmark project in Singapore, a market known for its stringent technical and quality verification requirements, serves as a testament to Taihan’s all-encompassing competitiv advantage in technology, quality, and service,” and further affirmed, “We will continue to play a pivotal role in enhancing the national competitiveness by widely promoting the excellence of Korean cable technology and products in key markets across the United States, Europe, and Asia.” Taihan, having successfully completed the 400kV projects conducted in Singapore in both 2016 and 2022, has now achieved a remarkable feat with the signing of this contract, making it the only company in Korea to have participated in every 400kV full-turnkey project carried out in Singapore.
