Taihan Secures Extra-High Voltage Full Turn-Key Projects in Qatar Worth a Total of USD 160 Million (Approx. KRW 220 Billion)

- Secures Two Consecutive Contracts, Including a USD 130 million (KRW 180 billion) Transmission System Expansion Project

- To Execute the Entire Process of Qatar’s Highest-Voltage 400kV Transmission Network, from Design to Testing

- “We Will Accelerate Our Penetration into The Middle East Market with Submarine Cables and HVDC Cable Systems.”

Taihan Secures Consecutive Extra-High Voltage Projects in Qatar, Reinforcing Its Competitiveness in the Middle East.

Taihan announced on August 26 that it has received a Letter of Award (LOA) from Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) for a large-scale extra-high voltage (EHV) power grid expansion project.

The project aims to expand the transmission system to deliver electricity generated from a major desalination and power plant to the entire nation of Qatar in a stable manner. Valued at approximately USD 130 million (KRW 180 billion), the project will be executed on a full turn-key basis, covering the entire process from design and manufacturing to cable laying, jointing, and testing of 400kV and 220kV EHV networks—the highest voltage levels in the country.

This follows another contract secured on August 21, worth around USD 31 million (KRW 40 billion), for the construction of a 220kV EHV power network to meet Qatar’s growing electricity demand. This project will also be carried out on a full turn-key basis.

Qatar is regarded as one of the most technically demanding markets in the Middle East. In particular, EHV full turn-key projects require rigorous evaluation across all dimensions, including quality, technology, engineering, and project management. The recent contract wins are widely seen as recognition of Taihan’s superior EHV cable technology and its proven project execution capabilities.

Since 2008, Taihan has steadily participated in Kahramaa’s EHV grid expansion projects, consistently delivering strong results against global competitors and strengthening its position as a key supplier in Qatar.

A Taihan official commented, “These consecutive contract wins reaffirm Taihan’s unrivaled competitiveness in Qatar’s power grid sector. As demand for power infrastructure continues to grow in Qatar and across the Middle East, we will broaden our business portfolio with HVDC cable systems and submarine cables, further solidifying our presence in the regional market.”
