A view of the completion ceremony venue.    Taihan’s South African Subsidiary M-TEC Completes Expansion of Power Cable Plant- Production capacity doubled with the addition of state-of-the-art CCV insulation facilities- Expansion enhances product quality, price competitiveness, and accelerates local project execution- “We will expand power infrastructure exports across Africa, with South Africa as a strategic hub” Taihan has expanded its production capabilities to strengthen its competitiveness in the African market. Taihan held a completion ceremony on the 22nd (local time) for the expansion of its power cable plant at M-TEC (Malesela Taihan Electric Cable), its production subsidiary in South Africa. The expansion was undertaken to meet growing demand for medium- and low-voltage (MV/LV) cables, which account for over 90% of South Africa’s underground power market. This involved the addition of a Catenary Continuous Vulcanization (CCV) line, a state-of-the-art insulation facility.This investment is expected to more than double M-TEC’s MV/LV cable production capacity, while further strengthening its quality and cost competitiveness. The completion ceremony was attended by Lester Bouah, Chief Director for Energy at South Africa’s Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (DTIC), representatives from Eskom, partner company CIH, Yong-dohan Yang, Ambassador of Korea to South Africa, Dae-heon Kim, Executive President for Corporate Planning at Hoban Group, Jun-seok Kim, Vice President of Taihan, and Young-soo Shin, CEO of M-TEC. A Taihan official stated, “Through this investment, M-TEC will actively respond to expanding local demand while broadening exports across Africa. As a comprehensive wire and cable manufacturer, we will continue to strengthen our competitiveness in power cables, overhead conductors, and trolley wires, contributing to the stabilization of South Africa’s power network.” Established in 2000 as a joint venture between Taihan and local partners to enter the African market, M-TEC has built strong trust by supplying a diverse portfolio that includes MV/LV cables, overhead conductors, trolley wires, and communication cables.Based on this foundation, the company achieved sales of KRW 123.9 billion last year, representing a growth of approximately 33% compared to 2023.

M-TEC plans to actively participate in Eskom’s upcoming mid- to long-term tenders. Founded in 2000 as a joint venture by Taihan, M-TEC has successfully delivered numerous infrastructure projects across South Africa, earning recognition for its product quality and execution capabilities. In 2024, the company posted record results, with revenue reaching KRW 123.5 billion—up over 33% YoY—and operating profit more than doubling to KRW 8.8 billion. Taihan is positioning M-TEC as a strategic production base for supplying power infrastructure across Africa. The company recently completed the expansion of its MV/LV cable production facilities and quality enhancement initiatives, which began in the second half of 2023. A Taihan representative stated, “South Africa is the continent’s largest economy with highly developed financial and industrial infrastructure. As investments in power and infrastructure gain momentum, we are leveraging M-TEC’s local presence, proven track record, and strong network to become a central hub for power infrastructure across Africa.” Meanwhile, Taihan recently welcomed Ms. Sindiswa Mququ, Ambassador of South Africa to Korea, to its Dangjin Cable Plant to explore further cooperation and business expansion opportunities in the region. South African Ambassador to Korea visits Taihan to discuss business expansion in South AfricaThe South African ambassador to Korea visited Taihan's headquarters on the Nov. 1st, 2022 to discuss ways of Taihan's expanding its business in South Africa. About 10 key officials including South African Ambassador to Korea Zenani N. Dlamini, Economic Counselor of the South African Embassy in Korea Seema Sardha, Chairman of Hoban Group Kim Seon-kyu, President of Taihan Na Hyung-gyun, and Executive Director of Hoban E&C Kim Min-seong attended the meeting. The meeting lasted about an hour and a half, and the main contents of the meeting were the facility investment plan of M-TEC, the South African production corporation of Taihan, and the opportunities and plans, etc. for Hoban Group's business expansion through it.

MV/LV is a cable that is in high demand, accounting for about 90% of South Africa's underground power market. Through this investment, M-TEC plans to update MV/LV cable production facilities. Above all, M-TEC will extend the CCV (Catenary Continuous Vulcanization) line, which performs the insulation process, and reinforce the production line that specially treats the conductor surface. This investment will be completed by 2023. M-TEC expects to secure production efficiency three times or more compared to the previous production efficiency, and enhance product and price competitive edge by extending the core facilities for MV/LV cables.
