M-TEC won a US$ 400 million order

Malesela Taihan Electric Cable(M-TEC), a TAIHAN’s subsidiary in South Africa, announced that it won a US$ 400 million order from Eskom, which is the state-owned electric power company in South Africa. With this large-scale order, M-TEC will supply power cables of US$ 80 million yearly for following five years to ESKOM. As the supply contract includes the option for additional quantity for further two years, the total volume of this order may be increased to US$ 600 million.

M-TEC has been supplying 70% of total quantity of optical fiber cables to TELKOM, the state-owned telecommunication company, with a long-term supply contract since 2002. The South African government plans to invest US$20 billion in building the national power infrastructure for World Cup 2010.

M-TEC was reformed in 2000 as a joint venture on the basis of a local cable maker, Malesela Technologies with 90 years history. The company covers wide range of cable products in power and telecom sector including optical fiber, OPGW and high voltage XLPE power cable. The long term supply contracts to ESKOM and TELKOM will lead M-TEC to be a main supplier of power and telecommunication cables in South Africa.
