Taihan Renames CLV ‘Skandi Connector’ to ‘Taihan Connector,’ Strengthening Global Brand Recognition

- Integrates Taihan’s corporate identity into the vessel’s name to enhance global brand recognition

- Reflects the vessel’s role and vision of connecting countries and continents through submarine cables

- Operates South Korea’s only fleet of two CLVs alongside PALOS, strengthening submarine cable turnkey capabilities

Taihan Cable & Solution is accelerating its expansion in the global submarine cable market with the renaming of one of its cable-laying vessels (CLVs).

Taihan (CEO and President Kim Joon Seok) announced on November 2 that it has renamed its cable-laying vessel, formerly known as Skandi Connector, to Taihan Connector.

The renaming initiative is intended to incorporate Taihan’s corporate identity into one of its key submarine cable installation assets while enhancing brand recognition in the global submarine cable market. Prior to selecting the new name, Taihan held an internal naming contest to encourage employee engagement and strengthen employees’ connection with the vessel.

The new name, Taihan Connector, embodies the company’s commitment and ambition to successfully connect submarine cable networks under the Taihan name. By incorporating its corporate name into the vessel’s identity, Taihan aims to reflect its established brand value and standing in the global power grid market, while reinforcing the vessel’s significance as a flagship asset representing the company in the submarine cable sector.

The name also retains “Connector” from the vessel’s original name, preserving the recognition and identity that Skandi Connector has established in the global market as a cable-laying vessel. Having participated in 27 projects and installed approximately 1,300 kilometers of submarine cables, Skandi Connector has demonstrated its operational safety and installation capabilities across Europe and other international markets.

Acquired by Taihan in May 2026 from DOF, a Norwegian offshore services company, Taihan Connector is an approximately 11,000-ton-class dedicated submarine cable-laying vessel. The vessel can carry up to 7,000 tons of submarine cables in a single load and can be deployed for offshore wind farm inter-array and export cable installation, as well as long-distance interconnection and HVDC submarine cable projects.

Taihan operates South Korea’s only fleet of two CLVs dedicated to offshore wind projects, comprising PALOS and Taihan Connector. This fleet enables the company to deploy the most suitable vessel according to project requirements and installation conditions. Building on this capability, Taihan plans to further strengthen its turnkey capabilities across the entire submarine cable value chain, from design and manufacturing to transportation and installation, while expanding business opportunities in domestic and international markets.

“Taihan Connector is a key asset that symbolizes Taihan’s corporate identity and submarine cable installation capabilities,” a Taihan representative said. “With our two CLVs, we will continue to enhance our ability to execute a wide range of submarine cable projects and further strengthen our competitiveness in the global market.”
