Taihan Secures 380kV EHV Turnkey Project in Germany, Accelerating European Expansion
- Netherlands subsidiary awarded power grid construction project on a turnkey basis
- Headquarters’ contract worth approximately KRW 115 billion; total turnkey project value and client remain undisclosed
- Company strengthens its position as a key supplier through major project wins since entering Europe in 2017
Taihan has reaffirmed its position in the European market by securing new turnkey project in Germany.
Taihan announced on October 27 that its Netherlands subsidiary, Taihan Netherlands B.V., has been awarded a 380kV extra-high-voltage (EHV) power grid project in Germany on a turnkey basis.
Taihan Netherlands B.V. will oversee the entire project, including local engineering and construction, while Taihan’s headquarters will manufacture and supply key materials, including EHV cables and cable accessories.
In a regulatory filing on October 27, Taihan disclosed that its headquarters had signed a contract worth approximately KRW 115 billion with its Netherlands subsidiary. The contract covers material supply and related activities undertaken by the headquarters. The total value of the turnkey project secured by Taihan Netherlands B.V., which also includes local engineering and construction, exceeds this amount. Further details, including the total project value and the client’s identity, remain undisclosed under a non-disclosure agreement with the client.
The project involves constructing a 380kV power grid, the highest voltage used for underground alternating current (AC) transmission in Germany. Taihan previously demonstrated its competitiveness by securing two 380kV EHV power grid projects in Germany in succession in January 2023. This latest award represents renewed recognition of the company’s project execution track record, product quality, and technological capabilities in the German market.
Taihan has secured at least KRW 500 billion in new orders in Europe alone this year, including major projects in Germany, Denmark, and the United Kingdom, strengthening its position as a key supplier. As investment in EHV power infrastructure across Europe continues to grow in response to the wider adoption of AI and the expansion of data centers, the company plans to build on its proven local track record to accelerate its market expansion.
“We will further strengthen our relationships with customers and partners in Europe while deepening our understanding of local markets and enhancing our business capabilities,” a Taihan representative said. “Building on the customer trust we have earned in EHV power grid projects, we will expand business opportunities in HVDC and submarine cables and translate them into new orders.”
Taihan established its UK branch in 2017 to expand into Europe, the birthplace of the power industry. In 2019, the company stepped up its localization efforts by expanding and reorganizing its European operations into a regional headquarters and establishing a subsidiary in the Netherlands. Taihan currently operates five branches across Europe, including in Denmark, Sweden, and the United Kingdom, alongside its Netherlands subsidiary, and continues to grow its business in the region.
