Taihan Strengthens Technical Competitiveness Through Structural Performance Verification Partnership with Myongji University

Taihan is strengthening the quality and technological competitiveness of its submarine cable business by expanding collaboration with a specialized research institution.
The company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Hybrid Structural Testing Center at Myongji University in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, to cooperate on the structural performance verification of submarine cables. The signing ceremony was attended by key representatives from both organizations
The agreement aims to advance structural performance verification systems for submarine cables while establishing a collaborative framework for related technology research. Under the partnership, the two organizations will jointly conduct structural performance testing and evaluation for submarine cables, power and telecommunications cables, and other industrial products, while expanding technical research and collaboration.
The Hybrid Structural Testing Center at Myongji University is a specialized research institute dedicated to evaluating the performance of structures and industrial products. Equipped with large-scale testing facilities and advanced measurement systems, the center conducts a wide range of research and testing activities. It is particularly recognized for its expertise in assessing the safety and performance of industrial structures and products using hybrid testing technologies that simulate real-world operating conditions.
Because submarine cables are designed to operate on the seabed for decades, it is essential to establish verification systems that accurately reflect actual operating environments while ensuring long-term product reliability. Leveraging Myongji University's specialized testing infrastructure, Taihan plans to further enhance its submarine cable verification framework and expand its testing technologies and research capabilities. The collaboration is also expected to establish a domestic foundation for rapidly advancing the development, performance evaluation, and certification of dynamic submarine cables, which are expected to play a key role in the growing floating offshore wind market.
Earlier this year, Taihan strengthened its product testing and certification capabilities by completing a dedicated HVDC Cable Test Center at its Dangjin Cable Plant. Through this latest partnership, the company expects to expand its capabilities beyond electrical performance testing into structural verification, further strengthening its integrated project execution framework for the submarine cable business.
A Taihan official commented, "In the submarine cable market, competitiveness depends not only on technological expertise but also on product reliability and quality verification capabilities. Through this partnership, we will further strengthen our structural verification capabilities while continuously enhancing the quality and reliability demanded by the global market."
The official added, "We will continue expanding investments in R&D and testing infrastructure to reinforce our competitiveness in both the submarine cable and HVDC businesses."
Meanwhile, Taihan continues to invest in expanding its submarine cable and HVDC businesses. The company is currently constructing its second submarine cable plant in Dangjin, Chungcheongnam-do, and recently secured the 11,000-ton-class submarine cable laying vessel (CLV), Scandi Connector. Alongside expanding its manufacturing and installation capabilities, Taihan is also advancing its testing and verification infrastructure.
