Taihan Strengthens North American Infrastructure Market Presence at IEEE, the Largest Power Exhibition in the U.S.
- Showcasing submarine cables, HVDC, and HPFF retrofit solutions to address growing U.S. power demand
- Highlighting 525kV HVDC integrated solutions applicable to the West Coast Energy Highway project
- Vice Chairman Song Jong-min visits the exhibition site to discuss business cooperation with major U.S. utilities
Taihan is accelerating its expansion into the North American power infrastructure market by leveraging its advanced HVDC cable technology.
Taihan announced on May 6 that it participated in 2026 IEEE PES T&D, held in Chicago, Illinois, from May 4 to 7. IEEE PES T&D is the largest power infrastructure exhibition in the United States, bringing together power equipment manufacturers, utilities, and related institutions from around the world to showcase the latest technologies and solutions in power transmission and distribution.
At this year’s exhibition, Taihan presented a broad range of strategic products, including HVDC cables, submarine cables, and HPFF retrofit solutions. The exhibition was structured around segments experiencing growing demand in the North American market, with a focus on identifying tangible business opportunities.
Particular emphasis was placed on HVDC technology. The company showcased 320kV-class HVDC underground cables, including projects already secured in the United States, alongside 525kV-class HVDC underground cables and 525kV-class HVDC submarine cables applicable to Korea’s West Coast Energy Highway project, underscoring its technological competitiveness in next-generation power grid development.
The company also highlighted its submarine cable investment status and integrated solution capabilities. It shared major project references from domestic and international submarine cable projects, along with updates on the production capacity and construction progress of its second submarine cable plant in Dangjin, scheduled for completion in 2027. In addition, Taihan introduced PALOS, a dedicated cable-laying vessel for offshore wind power, and Taihan Ocean Works, its specialized submarine cable installation affiliate.
HPFF retrofit solutions were also on display, drawing considerable interest from visitors. These solutions enable increased transmission capacity by utilizing existing conduit infrastructure and are expected to see strong demand in the U.S. market, where aging power infrastructure accounts for a significant share. Based on its project experience and technological expertise, Taihan conducted tailored consultations with customers.
Vice Chairman Song Jong-min visited the exhibition in person and, together with executives and employees from the company’s U.S. subsidiary, met with key officials from major North American utilities and business partners to discuss ongoing projects and future cooperation.
“The North American region is experiencing rapid growth as power grid investment expands alongside the adoption of renewable energy,” said Vice Chairman Song. “Building on our experience and track record in the United States, we will continue to expand our performance in core areas such as HVDC, submarine cables, and aging grid solutions.”
Prior to this exhibition, Taihan also participated in the Insulated Conductors Committee (ICC), a leading North American power grid conference held in California from April 26 to 29.
Meanwhile, industry projections indicate that annual U.S. electricity demand will rise from approximately 4,100 TWh in 2024 to over 5,000 TWh by 2030, driven by advances in AI and the expansion of data centers. Accordingly, business opportunities related to new grid construction and aging infrastructure replacement are expected to expand.
