Taihan Unveils Total Solution for the “West Coast Energy Highway” at BIXPO 2025
- Showcases 525kV HVDC Submarine Cable Prototype under the Theme “From the West Sea to the World”
- Presents the CLV “PALOS” and Announces Plans for a New HVDC Cable Laying Vessel, Highlighting Turnkey Capabilities
- Demonstrates Technological Leadership through Project Achievements, New Products, and Advanced Solutions
Taihan participated in BIXPO 2025 (Bitgaram International Electric Power Technology Expo), held from November 5 to 7 at the Kimdaejung Convention Center in Gwangju, Korea.
Hosted by Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), BIXPO is Korea’s largest international exhibition for power technology, bringing together around 200 domestic and global companies under the theme “Connecting with Energy.” Participants showcased the latest innovations shaping the future of the electric power industry.
Under the theme “From the West Sea to the World – Taihan Connecting New Energy Pathways,” the company unveiled a total solution that supports both the West Coast Energy Highway and global offshore wind projects, emphasizing its readiness and technological competitiveness.
A key highlight was the first public display in Korea of a 525kV HVDC submarine cable prototype, suitable for deployment in the West Coast Energy Highway project. The cable will be produced at Dangjin Submarine Cable Plant 2, a state-of-the-art facility equipped with production capabilities for 640kV HVDC and 400kV HVAC submarine cables, featuring Korea’s tallest 187-meter VCV (Vertical Continuous Vulcanization) tower. The plant is scheduled to begin full-scale operations in 2027.
Taihan also showcased the “PALOS,” Korea’s only CLV (Cable Laying Vessel) dedicated to offshore wind projects, and announced plans to secure an additional 20,000-ton-class HVDC CLV to expand its construction capacity in response to growing global demand.
To further strengthen its offshore installation competitiveness, the company introduced Taihan Ocean Works, a specialized submarine cable installation subsidiary acquired in July. This expansion enables Taihan to deliver turnkey solutions across the entire submarine cable value chain, from design, manufacturing, and transportation to installation, engineering, and maintenance.
The exhibition also featured inter-array submarine cables currently being supplied for the Yeonggwang Nakwol Offshore Wind Project, and a dynamic submarine cable prototype designed for floating offshore wind applications. Taihan additionally presented eco-friendly products and co-developed technologies with various research institutions and partners, underscoring its commitment to innovation and sustainability in the future power infrastructure market.
Vice Chairman Jong-min Song attended the opening ceremony and met with key clients to discuss cooperation and business expansion.
He remarked, “It is meaningful to present our total submarine cable solution for HVDC projects such as the West Coast Energy Highway at this major exhibition, where industry leaders from home and abroad have gathered. As the theme ‘From the West Sea to the World’ suggests, Taihan will continue to play a pivotal role not only in Korea but also in the global market.”
