Taihan first passing the PQ test of 500kV in Korea
- the highest voltage among underground power cables
- A chance to expand into new markets such as Russia.

TEC passed the 500kV extra-high voltage PQ (Pre Qualification) test of the internationally authorized Holland’s test organization, KEMA, for the first time in Korea on April 26.

500kV extra-high voltage cables are the highest voltage among underground cables, and are the product which requires high technology that only a small number of global electric wire companies can manufacture and install.

After TEC commercialized its existing 300kV, 380kV, and 400kV grade extra-high voltage cables, it started developing high value-added extra-high voltage 500kV cables from 2008. As a result, the type test was passed in 2010, and the PQ test progressed for 1 year since 2011. Especially, in order to inspect performance in extreme environments such as Russia, after installing the cables and joints in environments similar to actual conditions, tests have been carried out by accelerated degradation for 1 year.

Certification by the world’s most credible KEMA in the electricity area means that the technology of TEC  was globally approved in regards to the manufacturing and installation of a 500kV cable system.

TEC officials said, “We plan to actively start expanding into advanced markets including Russia, by continuing to develop high value-added extra-high voltage technology for the improvement of profitability and expansion of overseas market.”
