Dangjin Submarine Plant

Rivals in the era of great energy transition

In response to the accelerating energy transition and the rapidly growing submarine cable market, Taihan has undertaken the construction of a new manufacturing facility to strengthen its competitiveness. Building on decades of expertise and proprietary technology as Korea’s first cable manufacturer, the company completed its first large-scale Submarine Cable Plant 1 in Dangjin, Chungcheongnam-do in June 2025. The plant has the capacity to manufacture internal array cables (154kV), external cables (400kV), and dynamic cables for floating offshore wind power. Submarine Cable Plant 2, designed for external cables and HVDC submarine cable production, features Vertical Continuous Vulcanization (VCV) facilities. Phase 1 of Submarine Cable Plant 2 is scheduled to commence operations in 2027, with Phase 2 investments for production capacity expansion to be strategically pursued based on future market conditions.

West Cluster

The Dangjin Submarine Plant plays a pivotal role in forming the "West Cluster," being adjacent to the world's largest Dangjin Cable Plant and the Dangjin Solution Plant, which produces cable accessories. The proximity of the new plant to existing facilities—just a 10-minute drive—allows for the effective utilization of the well-established human and material infrastructure.

Strategic Location Advantage

Located at the Godeok Pier in Pyeongtaek-Dangjin Port, Submarine Plant 1 is strategically positioned to efficiently and safely supply submarine cables to offshore wind project sites along Korea’s west and south coasts, where numerous developments are currently underway. With the pier only 150 meters away, cables can be swiftly loaded onto the cable-laying vessel Palos, resulting in significant cost and time savings.

PALOS: Korea's Only Offshore Wind CLV

PALOS is a specialized Cable Laying Vessel (CLV) dedicated to offshore wind projects and is unique in Korea. The vessel is capable of speeds up to 9 knots and is equipped with a Dynamic Positioning System (DP2) that maintains precise positioning for extended periods, ensuring high performance in submarine cable installation.
