Taihan Secures Haenam Solar Power Grid Project, Demonstrating Technological Prowess in Renewable Energy
- Contract valued at approximately KRW 50 billion; involves an extra-high voltage (EHV) grid for solar power interconnection.
- Executed as a full turnkey EPC project, encompassing design, manufacturing, installation, splicing, and commissioning.
- Strategic importance of grid interconnection highlighted amid renewable energy expansion; demand for power infrastructure expected to rise.
Taihan announced on June 1 that it has been awarded a project to construct an extra-high voltage (EHV) power transmission network for a solar power generation project in Haenam, South Jeolla Province. The contract is valued at approximately KRW 50 billion.
The project aims to transmit electricity generated at the Haenam Solar Power Plant to the Haenam Substation. It was initiated to address the growing power demand in the region and to support the expansion of renewable energy. Under this agreement, Taihan will construct a 154kV EHV power grid on a full turnkey EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) basis.
A full turnkey execution comprehensively manages the entire project lifecycle, including grid design, manufacturing, installation, splicing, and commissioning. This approach demands rigorous quality control, high technological reliability, and advanced engineering capabilities. Taihan was selected as the qualified contractor based on its extensive cable manufacturing expertise and proven project execution track record accumulated over decades.
Taihan continues to achieve milestones in domestic renewable energy interconnection projects. In April, the company secured a 154kV EHV submarine cable project connecting power generated from the Bigeum Solar Power Plant and the Dogo Floating Solar Power Plant in Sinan, South Jeolla Province, to the Anjwado Substation. Having demonstrated its strategic advantages in major domestic renewable energy projects, Taihan anticipates securing various additional contract opportunities in the near future.
Recently, the South Korean government announced its 1st Basic Plan for Renewable Energy, promoting the expansion of solar and wind power generation alongside the enhancement of related infrastructure. As the strategic importance of grid interconnection projects linking power generation sources to the national transmission network increases, Taihan is solidifying its market position in the domestic renewable energy grid sector, driven by its EHV cable technological expertise and project execution capabilities.
A representative from Taihan stated, "It is highly significant that we can contribute to the energy transition and the expansion of power infrastructure by supplying stable power grid solutions amidst the growing domestic renewable energy sector." The official added, "Moving forward, we will continue to strengthen our strategic advantages in both domestic and global power grid markets, leveraging our accumulated project experience and engineering expertise."
Meanwhile, Taihan is proactively addressing market demand and expanding revenue across global markets, including the United States, Europe, and the Middle East. Consequently, the company reported consolidated financial results for the first quarter with a revenue of KRW 1.0834 trillion and an operating profit of KRW 60.4 billion, maintaining a stable growth trajectory. This represents a 26.6% increase in revenue (from KRW 855.5 billion) and a 122.9% increase in operating profit (from KRW 27.1 billion) year-over-year.
