Taihan Secures KRW 110 Billion EHV Power Grid Project in Sweden, Accelerating Growth in Europe
- 420kV underground power grid, the highest voltage for underground cables in Sweden.
- Successfully awarded the contract after rigorous evaluation, highlighting project complexity.
- Achieving significant milestones across the U.S., Asia, and Europe, with expectations for further backlog expansion.
Taihan Cable & Solution has demonstrated its competitive edge in the European cable industry.
On December 6, Taihan (CEO: Jongmin Song) announced its contract with Svenska kraftnät, Sweden’s state-owned power authority, to deliver a extra high-voltage underground power grid project. This approximately KRW 110 billion project involves constructing a 420kV underground power grid traversing Stockholm, Sweden's capital.
The project, a key initiative by Svenska kraftnät, aims to address the growing power demand in Stockholm. It will connect the northern Anneberg region with the southern Skanstull region through a 420kV high-voltage power grid. Taihan will supply all necessary materials, including 420kV cables and cable accessories, and will carry out connection installation as well as commissioning tests.
The 420kV power grid represents the highest voltage level for underground AC cables in Sweden. Given the high standards required to ensure the grid's stability and reliability, suppliers underwent a stringent selection process. Taihan's exceptional technical expertise, product quality, engineering capabilities, and project management proficiency secured its selection for the project.
This award marks another significant achievement for Taihan in 2024, adding a major European project to its growing portfolio. Earlier this year, Taihan recorded new orders worth KRW 730 billion in the U.S. and secured a KRW 840 billion mega project in Singapore, reinforcing its strong presence in the global market.
With an all-time high order backlog of KRW 2.32 trillion as of Q3, Taihan anticipates further growth in Q4 as additional contracts are finalized.
A Taihan spokesperson stated, “Our proven track record of successfully executing projects in the UK, Germany, and the Netherlands enabled us to win this large-scale project in Sweden, a market known for its high entry barriers. Through this contract, we expect to strengthen our foothold in Europe, where demand for power grid expansion is continuously rising, and secure more business opportunities.”
To enhance its presence in Europe, Taihan established a UK branch in April 2017 and deployed dedicated personnel. In 2019, it integrated its Russia and UK branches to form its European headquarters, while also opening a new office in the Netherlands to expand its business network. Currently, Taihan supplies extra high-voltage power grids to Sweden, the Netherlands, Denmark, and the UK, solidifying its success in the European market.
